Ronaldo has given $9.7 million of his own money to the Save the Children charity, according to French football magazine So Foot.
The Abbott government’s aid assistance since the April 25 disaster - which killed 8000 people - stands at $11m, while the United States of America has donated $10m.
The Real Madrid megastar - whose earnings topped $24m in 2014 - has a long history of charitable deeds. Last year he paid $116,000 for a 10-month-old baby’s cortical dysplasia treatment, while in 2004 he flew to Indonesia to visit victims of the tsunami.
Despite his good deed,Ronaldo couldn’t catch a break for Real Madrid overnight, seeing his penalty saved as the Spaniard’s La Liga title hopes evaporated with a 2-2 draw against Valencia.
