Once again, Matt Damon is a lone astronaut surviving on an empty planet.
In Ridley Scott's "The Martian," Damon's NASA astronaut Mark Watney is left for dead on Mars by his crew after an intense storm. Like Damon's "Interstellar" character, Watney must fight to survive with limited resources and attempt to contact Earth. How does he do it? As Damon says in the film's first trailer, "I'm going to have to science the shit out of this."
Earlier on Monday, we praised the first promo video for "The Martian" for its lighthearted nature -- it showed Watney joking around with his crew. We thought, hey, maybe this space movie will have some fun moments and not give us a heart attack like most do. Oh boy, were we wrong. By the looks of the trailer, "The Martian" is certainly going to be an intense trip through space, for both Watney on the Red Planet, and his crew as they attempt to rescue him.
The film also stars Jessica Chastain, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Jeff Daniels, Kristen Wiig, Michael Pena, Kate Mara, Sebastian Stan, Aksel Hennie, Sean Bean and Donald Glover. "The Martian" opens Nov. 25.
