High lead levels found, Delhi may ban Maggi

NEW DELHI: Maggi noodles is in trouble in Delhi amid indications that the state government may move to ban it. A Delhi government spokesman said 10 out of 13 samples tested for lead content in the popular food item were found to have amounts higher than permissible limits. Several other states were also testing the product, if Maggi fails these tests, the travails of Nestle, which manufactures the popular noodle, could deepen.

Maggi Noodles Found with Excess Lead: Doctors Respond


In the world of food, how long can you keep a secret? If reports are to be believed, then Maggi has kept the secret for almost 40 years. Food Safety And Drug Administration (FSDA) Lucknow had collected a few samples of Maggi noodles and sent them to Kolkata for testing. The report found traces of Monosodium Glutamate (MSG) and lead content to be beyond permissible limits. The FSDA officials said the acceptable limit of lead ranges between 0.01 ppm and 2.5 ppm and what they found was 17.2 parts per million (ppm).

Maggi Found With MSG, Lead in Excess Quantity. Time To Say No To The 2-Minute Noodles?

Maggi maggi maggi! Think 10 times before you order or cook Maggi any further. The 2-minute noodles have come under a regulatory scanner as it reportedly contains monosodium glutamate (MSG) and lead in excess of the permissible limit.
The samples collected in some parts of Uttar Pradesh were found containing added MSG and lead in excess. Such additives are said to be harmful for health, mainly for children.
